This is a Ted Talk that I thought would be something different to include in my blog. This ted talk is about the story of Elizabeth Camarillo Gutierrez. She works on the trading floor and while she is very successful, she had a difficult and rough childhood. She begins with talking about the narratives associated with Mexican immigrants and how they affect them negatively. The two narratives she talks about are Mexican immigrants only being able to do low wage jobs and the idea of the "super immigrant" an immigrant with lots of success, making those who are struggling feel unworthy. Her parents had to return to Mexico at the age of 15 but she chose to stay in the U.S. She knew that she was one day going to make something of herself and achieve the American dream. That is exactly what she did, and she ended up flying her brother out to the U.S. so that she could help him achieve success. As successful immigrant, she now focuses on encouraging others to not give up and strive to achieve greatness. This caught my eye and interest because Elizabeth is a prime example of how anyone, Mexican immigrants specifically, can become successful. The road will be difficult, but that is what makes it all worth it in the end.
